SSV mainnet goes live: Comments from a verified node operator

Hello Solo Stakers,

It has been a while. Summer is in its final two weeks in Europe, and the SSV network is finally live on mainnet. I would like to offer the SSV team my congratulations and thanks for building useful software that works and putting it into production.

What is SSV and why do we love it?

The SSV Network, or Stateless, Secure Validators Network, is a protocol designed to provide a useful new staking option in the Ethereum network, allowing you to avoid being dependent on one organization or platform to run your validator node.

For stakers, the SSV network allows participation in the staking process without relying on third-party custodians like exchanges or staking-as-a-service providers. This gives stakers control over their assets throughout the staking process, if they value that option. This self-custody offers flexibility and the ability to utilize assets while earning rewards.

SSV’s self-custody aspect is something I particularly like. I have in the past discussed how important self-custody is and that, without it, Ethereum and Bitcoin’s strategic utility is significantly diminished.

Protocols are better than platforms

SSV is a protocol that employs advanced cryptographic techniques, specifically Boneh-Lynn-Shacham (BLS) signatures, enabling validators to collaborate securely without sharing private keys. This approach bolsters the security of staking by minimizing the risk of unauthorized access. Validator collaboration is a cornerstone of the SSV network, allowing secure resource pooling through BLS signatures. The goal is to enhance validation efficiency, thus leading to improved network consensus and performance.

Good = Useful Working Software in Production = SSV

It is extremely hard to build useful software that works and have people use it, but sadly nobody cares or says ‘thank you’, because it’s not accessible to non-tech folk and we don’t do a good job explaining stuff. So, it’s just deemed as an inevitable part of the human condition. This is not me asking, “Who is John Galt?” I am not a Randian nutter and would like to think I am a lot funnier than that, but I do care, and I want to say thank you. So, I will.

SSV, thank you for building the protocol and making a massive contribution to Ethereum in the process. We are super proud to be a mainnet operator and look forward to working with the SSV protocol to promote its use and make it successful going forward.
